Geneva Day 2

Saturday
Shannon and I woke up at 8AM and headed down to free continental breakfast. Shannon is as passionate about free continental breakfast as I am. We sat with a weird (but well-meaning) Texan.

After breakfast, we walked along Lake Geneva because walking along Lake Geneva is amazing, and Shannon needed to experience it too. I fell in a little bit. Re-skinned my skinned knee and got my butt wet/dirty. In other words, it was completely hilarious. Except Shannon had to turn around while I cleaned myself up because she doesn't do blood. OK, that definitely added to the hilariousness.

We were most excited for the Palace of Nations, so we decided to head there first. We found it quite easily and took tons of pictures of the outside, but then we completely failed the intelligence test that was finding the entrance.


While looking for the entrance to the Palace of Nations, we ended up on a very pretty walk, which led us to the Ariana museum. The Ariana museum was on our to-do list as a 'maybe-if-we-have-time' kind of item, but we figured we might as well check it out, since we were there and it was free. It's a ceramics and glass museum. It' was pretty cool. The building itself was awesome, and it was nice to just browse. Free museums are awesome like that.

After the Ariana, we walked around a bit more, trying and failing to get into the Palace of Nations. We walked up one big hill that reminded me a lot of UCSC campus. The busses do not come there often on the weekend. We finally got back to the hostel, where we grabbed bread, cheese, and wine out of Shannon's locker, and then we headed out in search of Cimetière de Saint Georges.

We had spotted a huge cemetery on the map with an attached animal park. Not only does Shannon share my passion for continental breakfast, she also shares my bizarre fascination with cemeteries. And who doesn't like animals?? So we went to the cemetery for lunch. Then we found the animals! There were so many goats! It was awesome! And peacocks and bunnies and guinea pigs and birds and donkeys and :-D We spent a lot of time in the animal park.

After lunch and animals, we did lots of wandering. We found a cool skate park with an amazing view, some sweet graffiti, and even a synagogue. Then we went to an Italian restaurant for dinner and split a pizza with artichokes and peppers and all sorts of good stuff i can't remember right now. Mmmm!

After dinner, we decided to find some more wine. This was not as easy as we thought it would be, but it lent itself nicely to adventuring. We took lots of different busses, saw cool statues and window displays, and generally wandered. We discovered that Geneva has some sort of law about selling alcohol after 9PM. But one shop-owner let us buy wine as long as we snuck it out in my purse. It was extremely sketchy, but we went with it. Then we played in the playground next to the skate park for a while before continuing our general wandering.

When we finally got back to the hostel, we were not ready for bed yet, so we sat in the lobby to gossip and catch up. Then some creepy drunk dude came over and was being annoying, so we decided to go for a walk. Then we found falafel. It was sooo good, and the falafel guys were so nice. It ended up working out perfectly. Mmmmmmm!
